There is little excuse for not getting exercise, particularly that the cost is too high. There is a simple practice, that almost everyone does everyday, that we could all do more of and get most of our needed daily exercise. The practice is walking. Most people may think that walking isn’t exercise, that they don’t or think they can’t get their heart rate up high enough just walking. What is important is motion and getting up out of your chairs that allow you to maintain that slow metabolism. Walking is inexpensive and there is no shortage on the number of routes or the length of the track for which to choose from.
At first it may be best to choose an amount of time to walk instead of a distance. Distance can be harder to measure but it is easy enough to decide to walk around the neighborhood for thirty minutes. Keeping your legs and arms moving and getting out into the fresh air is the first step. Don’t worry at first about how fast you go or what distance you are making that will come later. Each week try to increase your time you spend walking. The beautiful thing about Florida is that any time of year you can walk. But if it’s raining you may find going to a mall or some covered location keeps you motivated to keep walking everyday.
Increasing the time or distance that you walk is only one aspect of making walking a greater workout. Increasing your speed will increase your heart rate and therefore the workout will burn more calories. Walking is a great budget workout
You can also carry weights to increase the level of the workout. As your workout gets longer the first weight to carry is a bottle of water. Never let yourself get dehydrated. Try to drink water consistently throughout your workout and even afterward throughout the day.
