Keeping Fit on a Budget

Take a look around! You might be surprised by all of the “workout equipment” you already have around your house. By using a little ingenuity and creativity you may find that you already have a full workout center right in your own home without spending a dime! It really is not that difficult to find ways to stay fit without spending money or by spending very little.

When the weather is good enough take walks around your neighborhood. A nice walk outdoors with fresh air can do wonders for your physical and mental wellbeing. For those times when the weather is not so cooperative, you may wish to keep a small trampoline at home. These can be found for fewer than fifty dollars at most department stores and take up very little space. Jumping will keep you moving and active.

Spend a few dollars on exercise videos and use them. If you need the motivation of someone else to work out with, invite a neighbor over to work out with you several days a week. You can keep each other motivated to keep going and keep up with your workouts.

You don’t need to go out and buy weights for working on your strength training exercises. Use household items. They may not look as nice but they will still do the trick. When first starting out, you can simply use a can of soup for one-pound weights. As you want or need to move up in weight use empty juice jugs or milk jugs filled with water to the weight that you want to lift. Plastic jugs work great because you have the additional benefit of the handle to grasp during your workouts. Once you have worked beyond the weight you can get from a milk or juice jug, now you can move onto a larger jug such as from laundry soap. Adding sand to a jug will also increase the weight.
