People tend to think that they can only get fit if they buy a gym membership and start going to the gym. It may be that they feel they do not have the equipment at home to work out properly and cannot afford to buy any. They may believe that they cannot stay motivated to work out unless they are around other people. But, you do not have to go to the gym or buy a membership to get fit. You can get fit for free at home.
When the weather allows, simply walk! Walking is great exercise and gets your blood pumping while working out most of the major muscle groups. Spending time outside is beneficial for your overall health as well. You may want to add some basic weight to your walking work out. Simply filling two plastic water bottles full of water and carrying them in each hand while walking will add additional resistance to your walk, thereby giving you a better work out.
When weather does not allow you to walk outside, do an aerobic work out or marching style walk inside. Again, this gets your blood pumping, increases your heart rate, and works your muscles.
You can also do strength training at home. Some simple strength training exercises include using homemade weights for resistance. For beginning weights use the same water bottles filled with water to the weight you want. As you need to add additional weight you can use varying sized jugs filled with water to reach the weight you want to work with.
Getting fit is not all about the work out. It also involves eating right. The best way to ensure that you are eating right is simply to fix your own meals. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables, locally whenever possible. Eat as organic as you can. Cut out processed and prepackaged foods.
By making a few simple changes, you can easily get fit at home without going to the gym! If you need additional motivation, get a friend to work out with you. You can keep each other motivated.
