There are times when it’s just not feasible to go for a run or take a walk in the park with your dog. When the weather outside truly is frightful and you can’t be out in it, you’ll want to get your exercise indoors. You may not be able to safely drive to the gym if there is too much snow on the roads, so don’t assume that you have to go there to get your work out. You can exercise right in the comfort of your own home. There are some simple things you can do to get the blood moving, even if you don’t have any exercise equipment like a treadmill or free weights.

Push-ups and sit ups aren’t glamorous or particularly fun, but you can do them anywhere. Whether you live in one of the great Boston apartments or you’re in a big house in suburbia somewhere, there’s always room for these types of exercise. You can also do leg lifts, squats, and in-place activities like jumping jacks or jogging. Even walking around your home for a while does some good for your muscles and your circulatory system, so it’s worth doing. If you have a video game system, you can also play games on it that require you to move around, so you don’t just sit on the couch all day.

If you’re creative and inventive, look for other ways to get exercise. Cleaning is good, if you move briskly. So is finding soup cans or other objects to use as weights, so you can get some exercise in that way. Don’t buy into the hype that you need specific equipment or a certain place to work out. You can get your exercise wherever you are, just by moving around and being a little creative with your thoughts and ideas.
